DELAND — After four years of negotiations and false starts, a proposed downtown residential project is dead, city officials said at a budget workshop Monday.
The development, known as the Woodland Block project, was approved in November 2012 and could have brought dozens of new residents and businesses to the city’s center. The Daytona Beach-based White Challis Redevelopment Co. informed the city it would terminate the project late last week.
The company had planned to build on 1.86 acres near the corner of Woodland Boulevard and Church Street — the former site of DeLand’s downtown YMCA — in phases from 2014 through 2017.
