WEST PALM BEACH — A free trolley running people from downtown West Palm Beach to the new Palm Beach Outlet Mall — and, more importantly to downtown merchants, from the mall to downtown — would cost up to $50,000 just for a 3-month pilot program, the city’s Downtown Development Authority heard Tuesday morning.
The mall says it’s seen as many as a million shoppers since it opened on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, and “it’s a tremendous opportunity to leverage the traffic that’s coming into the mall,” DDA chair Howard Pincus told Tuesday’s regular board meeting. “It’s kind of a win-win for both sides, so we’re hoping we can work something out.”
DDA Associate Director Teneka James told the board the trolley “would be almost an express version. Just a few stops and off to the mall and back here.”
