The City of North Miami Beach is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Housing & Economic Development to lead initiatives that strengthen the local economy, expand housing opportunities, and support sustainable community growth.

This executive-level position provides leadership and strategic direction for the City’s Housing & Economic Development Department, overseeing programs and initiatives designed to foster business development, improve housing accessibility, and enhance the overall economic vitality of the community. The department works to cultivate a thriving business environment while promoting entrepreneurship, workforce development, and long-term economic sustainability.

JOB SUMMARY/OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION:

The Director of Housing & Economic Development is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the City’s housing and economic development initiatives. The role works closely with the City Manager, elected officials, developers, community organizations, and regional partners to implement policies and programs that support housing stability, business growth, and neighborhood revitalization.

The ideal candidate will provide strategic leadership for housing assistance programs, economic development initiatives, redevelopment activities, and business support services while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and funding requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide executive leadership and oversight for the Housing & Economic Development Department.
  • Develop and implement programs that support business development, workforce opportunities, and community revitalization.
  • Manage housing programs and initiatives designed to improve housing availability and affordability for residents.
  • Oversee economic development strategies that attract investment, create jobs, and strengthen the City’s business climate.
  • Collaborate with developers, property owners, community organizations, and regional agencies to advance redevelopment projects.
  • Identify funding opportunities and oversee grant programs and housing-related funding initiatives.
  • Prepare and present reports, policies, and recommendations to City leadership and governing bodies.
  • Monitor departmental budgets, program performance, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Represent the City in meetings, public forums, and partnerships related to housing and economic development initiatives.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Significant professional experience in housing programs, economic development, community development, or public administration.
  • Strong knowledge of housing policy, economic development strategies, redevelopment practices, and grant-funded programs.
  • Experience working with municipal governments, developers, community organizations, and public stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership, strategic planning, and program management experience.
  • Excellent communication, public presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
