Families in Apopka are seeing major home improvements thanks to the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency Residential Renovation Assistance Program, which invested nearly $1 million to help homeowners with critical exterior repairs. Eligible residents received up to $30,000 for upgrades such as new roofs, windows, driveway repairs, porch improvements and ADA modifications. In total, the program funded renovations for 33 homes across the CRA district.
For homeowners like Tim Williams, the assistance made repairs possible that otherwise would have been out of reach. Williams, who has lived in Apopka for three years, said the age of his home meant ongoing maintenance needs, but limited finances made tackling those projects difficult. The program helped bridge that gap, allowing needed improvements while preserving the character and safety of the neighborhood.
City leaders say the initiative is designed to stabilize neighborhoods, increase property values and support long-term economic development. Apopka Economic Development Director Antranette Forbes called the program a model for other communities, noting that removing barriers helped residents access assistance more easily. Due to strong demand, city officials hope to bring the renovation assistance program back in the future.
