The city’s outdoor Amphitheater, under construction at Memorial Park, is scheduled to open on time this spring.
The new covered stage area is estimated to have a crowd capacity of 2,500 people. The event complex will feature a green room, lawn seating, an architectural entry way with plaza area, monument entry, brick paver walkways, landscaping, site lighting, benches, bicycle racks and other park amenities.
Infrastructure improvements will include access roads, driveways, and utilities such as water, sewer, power, drainage and irrigation.
The Phase 4 improvement to Memorial Park, at 300 Southeast Ocean Boulevard, is estimated at $2.7 million.
The Community Redevelopment Agency appropriated about $1.1 million for the project, which broke ground this spring. The remaining balance will be paid with the American Rescue Plan Act grant funding.
Memorial Park, which was re-dedicated on Veterans Day, 2011, hosts some of the largest yearly events in the area. Along with its signature Veterans Memorial panels, expansive space, and close proximity to downtown, the park is also home to lighted racquetball courts, shuffleboard courts, and tennis courts, according to the city’s website.
Construction on the amphitheater began is scheduled to be completed in March or April 2026. Plans for a grand opening celebration are to be determined.
