The Margate Community Redevelopment Agency (MCRA) is considering whether to approve Task Order No. 3 with Chen Moore and Associates, Inc. (CMA) for expanded civil engineering, landscaping, and construction administration services related to the ongoing Margate Boulevard Crosswalk and Landscape Improvements Project.  The proposed agreement would authorize an additional $107,365 in professional services, bringing total design and oversight costs to $268,506.

The project began in 2021 when CMA was contracted to design upgrades addressing deteriorating sidewalks, crosswalk safety, and inconsistent landscaping along Margate Boulevard. These improvements were intended to bring the corridor up to current ADA standards and enhance the city’s visual character. A second task order in 2022 expanded CMA’s work to include engineering for paver sidewalks, new parking layouts, and additional landscape planning from SR 7/US 441 to East River Drive.

Construction officially began in August 2025 under FG Construction following earlier board approval. Since then, MCRA staff have requested CMA’s continued involvement to manage field inspections, handle change orders, review contractor pay applications, and conduct coordination meetings through April 2026. The new proposal would fund up to 110 additional site visits to ensure compliance and continuity during the construction phase.

If approved, the funding would come from the Margate Boulevard Improvements allocation within the Capital Improvements Program Fund. According to staff estimates, the addition would not extend the overall project timeline. The MCRA’s Executive Director, Cale Curtis, submitted the recommendation for board review, emphasizing the importance of maintaining project oversight to protect construction quality and public investment.
