Cape Coral’s new Slipaway Food Truck Park & Marina is getting nearly $1 million in funding to help cover construction costs. The city’s Community Redevelopment Agency approved two grants — $250,000 for infrastructure and $726,000 in tax-increment funding. The second grant passed by just one vote.
The owners say they’ve spent $19 million on the project, nearly double the original estimate, due to unexpected costs like building a seawall and sewer connections. They also claim the improvements have raised the property’s value, qualifying them for the 10-year tax program.
Since opening on July 4, Slipaway says they have drawn over 6,000 weekly visitors. Out-of-town guests say the park brings much-needed entertainment and food options to the area. The venue features rotating food trucks and waterfront dining along the marina.
