West Palm Beach is moving to harden its downtown perimeters. After clearing the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) last week, a plan to buy portable anti-vehicle barriers heads to the City Commission for a final vote on Monday, Aug. 18.
The CRA approved $730,000 toward the purchase; police say the total outlay is close to $800,000 when department funds are included. Monday’s vote would accept the CRA transfer and appropriate the money for a barrier system primarily in the downtown area.
The CRA’s agenda memo calls the barriers a “critical” safety upgrade for large events.
