As one of the few major cities in the region without city-funded ways to get around downtown, Boca Raton is one step closer to adding services to help residents get around without having to drive.
Boca Raton’s Community Redevelopment Agency is scheduled on Monday to weigh proposals for alternative transportation in an effort to reduce downtown traffic. According to a letter from City Manager Leif Ahnell to the City Council, the three proposals include:
- A door-to-door shuttle service for residents by means of golf cart-like vehicles
- A trolley system with set routes
- A bike-share program with bicycle pick-up facilities throughout the city
CRA chairman and City Council member Scott Singer said he hopes to hear from city staff about the cost of the programs and research into what other cities are doing. “I expect us to be discussing pros and cons of exactly what we’re looking for,” Singer said. “I hope that some variety of some of these plans move forward.”
