The Margate Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) will consider an agreement with Florida Power & Light (FPL) on October 14 to move existing overhead utility lines underground along State Road 7. The proposal involves CRA-owned property at 1100 N. State Road 7, the former Country Haven Motel site, which is part of the city’s planned City Center redevelopment.

FPL has requested a 10-foot-wide easement along the property’s State Road 7 frontage to accommodate underground electrical and communications infrastructure. The easement would extend north from an existing utility easement at 1000 N. State Road 7, formerly the Swap Shop property.

The easement is part of the broader effort to relocate overhead utility infrastructure along State Road 7, a corridor central to Margate’s redevelopment plans. Underground utilities would reduce the presence of overhead power lines along the affected section of roadway.

The agreement identifies nominal consideration of $1 and other consideration, while the CRA agenda lists no fiscal impact associated with the proposed approval.
