The City of Tampa, Hillsborough County and the Tampa Bay Rays now appear to have a clear path toward approving the team’s new “Forever Home” in Tampa. After months of stalled negotiations, delayed votes and public frustration, the political landscape shifted sharply when Tampa City Council member Bill Carlson signaled he is prepared to support the revised financing plan. His move gives the Rays the swing vote needed to push the project into its decisive week of approvals.
The Tampa City Council and the Community Redevelopment Agency are scheduled to vote Thursday on land‑use frameworks and infrastructure agreements. If approved, the Hillsborough County Commission will follow with a Friday vote on the county’s portion of the funding package. County leaders have made clear that city approval must come first before any county resources are committed.
