Orlando’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is offering financial incentives to business owners willing to open in certain downtown areas, including Church Street. However, the city had to pump the brakes on new applications after receiving more interest than expected.
The CRA business program can provide businesses with up to a $300,000 match to get their business open. Orlando city leaders said the program is not currently accepting new applications while they work through applications submitted.
Orlando City Commissioner Shan Rose, who covers District 5, said the program is aimed at helping qualified business owners open in targeted areas. She shared that the city is seeking businesses that have already invested financially and just need a little extra help.
“For me, it’s like making dreams a reality,” Rose said. “So, how do we help business owners who show that they can produce? Show that they have a history, an extensive background, and they have the finances together. How do we uplift them to be able to create opportunities?”
Rose said that in addition to businesses opening in specific areas, the city is seeking people to open an establishment that’s unique.
