The renovation of the former Wachovia Bank building was granted a 30-day extension, but there is a possible issue with the elevator in the three-story building on North Ridgewood Drive.

On Jan. 3, 2024, the Sebring Community Redevelopment Agency approved an agreement with the Blackmon family on the former bank building, which the CRA purchased in 2019 for $325,000.

Jim Blackmon spoke to the CRA Board Tuesday about the history of the building, which was built in 1973 prior to the 1980 updates to the ADA requirements.

He explained that before the Blackmon family took ownership of the building, a bid of $685,000 was obtained by the CRA for asbestos remediation and sealing of the building.

The CRA paid around $264,000 and the Blackmon family took it upon themselves to do the sealing of the building, which was around $421,000, Blackmon said.
