The city of Lakeland prides itself on showcasing art throughout the city. Now, city officials are hoping to use art to draw even more people to local businesses.
They’ve launched a “Mural Passport” that highlights both art and businesses.
Bob Fisher owns Southside Dry Cleaners in Lakeland, a family business established in 1954. He took it over two years ago and uses board messages to draw in new customers.
He says the demand for the dry cleaning service has grown over the years, which has led to expansion. “We go as far east as Tampa, so we’re in Land O’ Lakes down to West Shore.”
He could see even more foot traffic through the Lakeland Community Redevelopment Agency’s “Mural Passport.”
There are more than 30 murals spread throughout the city’s three main districts — downtown, midtown and Dixieland.
