The long-awaited restoration of the historic Walesbilt Hotel is shaping up to be a major boost for downtown Lake Wales. A recent economic study shows the project could bring thousands of new visitors each year, millions in local spending, and hundreds of jobs. With plans to become part of the Marriott Tribute Collection, the restored hotel would blend its historic character with new life as a destination for both visitors and residents.
The Lake Wales CRA is central to making that happen. After taking ownership of the long-vacant building, the CRA selected an experienced redevelopment partner and is helping guide the project forward. As decisions around funding and infrastructure move ahead, the CRA’s role is to ensure the project delivers real value, not just restoring a landmark, but driving long-term economic activity and revitalization in the heart of the city.
This is a good example of how a CRA can turn a long-idle property into something that supports jobs, local businesses, and community pride.
