Bradenton & Palmetto CRAs Celebrate Freebee Service Expansion with Ribbon Cutting
City officials from Bradenton and Palmetto gathered yesterday to celebrate a major milestone: the official ribbon cutting for the expanded Freebee electric ride service that now connects the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) districts of both cities.
The event celebrated more than just expanded service; it recognized a unique collaboration between two Community Redevelopment Agencies to bring convenient, sustainable, and free transportation across city lines.
“This partnership demonstrates how innovative thinking and teamwork can connect communities in new ways,” said Dr. Jeff Burton, City of Bradenton CRA Executive Director. “This one-of-a-kind service connects Bradenton CRA residents to the Palmetto CRA’s five grocery stores and links Palmetto’s CRA residents with destinations like the County Courthouse, Bishop Museum, Herrig Art Center, Manatee Performing Arts Center, the Beach Ferry Landing, and more.”
“Working together across city lines is a win for both communities,” said CRA Chair Jayne Kocher. “We’re improving transportation, strengthening access to essential services, encouraging local business, and enhancing quality of life for residents on both sides of the river.”
- Freebee launched in Downtown Bradenton in February 2024.
- In March 2025, Bradenton and Palmetto CRAs officially extended the service across the river into Palmetto in an effort to improve connectivity between the communities.
- Operating hours: Wednesday to Friday from 8 am to 8 pm, Saturday from 10 am to 10 pm, and Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm.
This service is completely free to users and is funded through CRA budgets, with additional support from in-app and vehicle wrap advertising. Freebee on-demand ride service includes wheelchair accessible options, which can be scheduled by calling their dispatch line at (855) 918-3733.
To catch a ride, simply download the “Ride Freebee” app, select your destination within the coverage area, and hop in—rides are complimentary. Freebee trips are limited to pick-up and drop-off locations within the service area, which currently includes both the Palmetto and Downtown Bradenton CRA boundaries.
As ridership grows, both CRAs will continue evaluating the program and consider potential enhancements or future expansion.
