Planning is gradually moving forward for the Margate City Center.
During the May 14 Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) meeting, executive director Cale Curtis told the board that city leaders and Brookfield Properties are assembling a team of professionals to create the project. The goal is to have a preliminary plan by the end of June.
Margate leaders want public input on the city center. According to Curtis, a public meeting on the proposed development is expected in August.
All commission members hope the 50 acres known as the city center at the intersection of Margate Boulevard and State Road 7 will become a vibrant downtown destination. Mayor Arlene Schwartz has said she wants it to be exciting. All the commissioners have said they want a mixed-use development with housing, high-quality restaurants, and stores.
