Overhead power lines may become a thing of the past in the city’s historic downtown thanks to a $9.3 million project to bury them.
Three city boards — the City Commission, Community Redevelopment Agency and Community Redevelopment Board — voted Monday to move ahead with the work. It’s set to begin in March.
Members of the public who spoke at the meeting were in favor of the project, including Bill Moore, owner of the iconic Kilwins Chocolate and Ice Cream shop on Osceola Street, who was thrilled afterward.
