In early October, the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) issued a request for proposals to design and build the Shipping Container Project at the Northwest 800 Block in Delray Beach, a project that had been pitched more than three years ago, but had still not seen much movement.
The project calls for the development of 15 CRA-owned properties along the main commercial corridor of West Atlantic Avenue, between N.W. Ninth Avenue and N.W. Eighth Avenue. The CRA plans to activate the area using recycled shipping containers, hence the project’s name.
“The Project is envisioned to create a vibrant commercial destination that will house a diverse range of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, cafes and service providers,” the CRA’s written request for proposals stated.
