Downtown revitalization is not always pretty.
It takes time for the beauty to show and the construction hassle to go away.
The Lake Wales CRA (Community Redevelopment Agency), Lake Wales Main Street, the City of Lake Wales and the Citrus Connection gave the downtown multi-million dollar makeover a boost last week.
Friday, the four entities held a ribbon cutting to celebrate “The Squeeze” micro-transit vehicle, which seats eight including the driver, rescuing downtown walkers and drivers from the transformation/parking snarl with free rides from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays.
Lake Wales Mayor Jack Hilligoss told the ribbon-cutting crowd that about a year ago he had a four-hour conversation with the Citrus Connection and the city’s needs.
