The Downtown Investment Authority has been the go-to agency in Jacksonville since 2012 for attracting investment into downtown, a mission that’s getting a fresh check-up by a special City Council committee.
The committee created by City Council President Ron Salem will take close look at whether DIA has met expectations for fostering downtown development and what changes, if any, the city should make in how DIA operates.
City Council member Kevin Carrico, the chairman of the committee, said the goal is that when people take vacations, they’ll pick Jacksonville because it “‘it’s got that awesome downtown. They’ve got beaches. They have rivers. It’s a beautiful place. So that’s what we want at the end of the day.”
