In the heart of Pensacola, Florida, a story of resilience and community spirit unfolds at the Frank R. Marson American Legion Post 33. Established in 1919, this post has witnessed the ebbs and flows of a century, from its inception to celebrate patriotism and unity, to facing the brink of oblivion. Today, under the stewardship of a dedicated group led by Richard Hunter, Carrie Hunter, and U.S. Coast Guard veteran Coy Glass, Post 33 is charting a course toward renewal and relevance.
Refusing to let the legacy of Post 33 fade into obscurity, a revival effort began in earnest in 2020. Spearheaded by a passionate group of veterans and community members, the post embarked on a journey of transformation. A pivotal moment in this journey was the securing of a $140,000 grant from the Pensacola Community Redevelopment Agency. This financial lifeline, earmarked for renovations, was a testament to the community’s faith in the post’s potential to serve as a vibrant hub once more.
