The City of Pensacola has been awarded with a $500,000 African-American Cultural and Historical grant from the State of Florida Department of State for the preservation and restoration of the Alice S. Williams Library, the first library in the city serving African-American residents dating back to 1952.
An additional $300,000 that was provided by the Community Redevelopment Agency will be used to convert the building into a community gathering center, an event space and a resource center with historical markers and displays.
