WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — In celebration of National Preservation Month, the City is sponsoring a Historic Preservation Photo Contest. The contest is open to all levels of photographers. The top five winners will receive a $100 prize. The best photos will be displayed at an upcoming City-hosted exhibit. National Preservation Month, also known as Historic Preservation Month, is observed every May as an opportunity of celebrate historic structures, downtowns, museums, parks, and events. Due to its abundance of historic structures, buildings, and landmarks, Downtown Winter Garden is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. Nearly 20 Downtown historic buildings can be found in its commercial district, 10 homes in its residential district, and as well as 13 iconic landmarks.
A national architectural firm, under the auspice of the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation and the City of Winter Garden, is currently conducting a re-survey of Winter
Garden’s historic areas in a continuing effort to preserve Winter Garden’s history.
A photo exhibit showcasing the re-survey process, the contributing structures and images, and the region’s pioneer beginnings will be displayed in the lobby of Winter Garden City Hall later this year. The winning entries of the photo contest, as well as additional selected photographs, will be included in this exhibit. Incorporated in 1908, Winter Garden spans 12.1 miles and is home to nearly 48,000 residents and over 2,000 businesses. Located on the southern shore of Lake Apopka, 20 minutes west of Orlando in Orange County, this former citrus town embodies a wealth of historical, cultural, and natural assets including a historic downtown and an award-winning bike trail.
