In an effort to make the Riviera Beach waterfront more accessible for everyone in our community, Riviera Beach CRA recently announced plans for new equipment designed to assist visitors who find it challenging to navigate the sand and water at Marina Village.
First will be the installation of a 5-foot-wide ADA-compatible (Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990) MOBI Beach Mat that extends 50 feet from the sidewalk down to the beach, then another 60 feet adjacent to the water’s edge. Beachgoers who rely on wheelchairs and other aids for their mobility, as well as families pushing kids in strollers and toting rolling coolers, etc., will find traversing the sand a lot less cumbersome.
In addition, three MOBI Floating Wheel Chairs are slated to be purchased following the Beach Mat initiative, giving people with disabilities an opportunity to enjoy the water in a way they might not have experienced.
Tentative approval for these exciting additions that will make the marina 100% ADA-compatible has been authorized, with execution of the grant agreement currently underway.
