BOYNTON BEACH — The city’s Community Redevelopment Agency will pay a church $3 million for its property on Federal Highway, making space available for a potential parking garage to complement the incoming downtown redevelopmentto be built over the next several years as well as a planned train station.
The Congregational United Church of Christ is selling its property to downsize and hopes to relocate within the city. The CRA is buying the church’s two parcels on the west side of Federal Highway between Boynton Beach Boulevard and Ocean Avenue. The land is in walking distance of the new 500 Ocean retail and residential development and the other incoming ones, Town Square, The Villages at East Ocean Avenue and Ocean One. Even better for the CRA, the city already owns a piece of land next to the church site.
“I think this is a tremendous opportunity,” Commissioner Justin Katz said at a recent CRA board meeting.
