IMMOKALEE, Fla. – An unlikely Southwest Florida town is hoping to become the new tourist hotspot.
Immokalee is working to bring more people to the area — starting by re-doing a landmark: the pier at Lake Trafford.
Ski Olesky, who runs Lake Trafford Marina, has been a staple at the lake since the 1970s. He said he’s been begging for repairs of the pier for a long time.
“We’re just trying to build the town up a little better,” Olesky said.
The pier is old and falling apart.
The Immokalee Community Redevelopment Agency joined Olesky’s fight, begging the county commissioners to do something about the failing Immokalee attraction.
“It’s very frustrating. If the people in Naples, had it been them, they would’ve been up in arms about this. They don’t listen to us. We’re red-headed step children of red-headed step children,” CRA co-chair Estil Null said.
