The northbound Business U.S. 41 gateway into the city of Palmetto is now redeveloped with an entirely fresh and inviting look.
Known as the Riverside Multimodal Project, the expanded park flanking the main road into downtown features towering palms, lush landscaping, wide brick and paver pathways for pedestrians and bicyclists to share, old-fashioned streetlights, 1,000 feet of new seawalls featuring a shoreline of artificial reefs and plenty of benches from which to soak in the sunset over the Manatee River.
On Thursday, Palmetto Mayor Shirley Groover Bryant proudly cut the ribbon for Riverside — a $4 million project by the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency with assistance from the Sarasota-Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization, Florida Department of Transportation and Southwest Florida Water Management District.
“This is a big celebration for us,” Bryant told an assembly of officials and others who supported or worked on the redevelopment. “I can’t say enough good things about all the cooperation.”
The project connects with other amenities in the area, such as the rebuilt city-owned boat ramp on Riverside Drive and the adjoining fishing pier at the historic Green Bridge.
