Lake County plans to add a traffic roundabout at the intersection of Old US Highway 441 and Eudora Road, along State Road 19A at the Golden Triangle Shopping Center area.
Construction of the roundabout is expected to begin by the end of 2018, said T.J. Fish, the executive director of Lake County’s Metropolitan Planning Organization.
When completed, county officials believe the project will improve conditions for pedestrians heading toward Triangle Elementary School and provide better access for those driving there from nearby neighborhoods.
“The original study found that there were, in fact, hazardous walking conditions in that area, and that’s our (MPO) primary reason for getting involved in this project – safety,” Fish said. “Roundabouts are usually built to resolve safety issues.”
But there are other benefits.
Mount Dora leaders say the roundabout could attract new businesses.
“That (Golden triangle shopping center) is one of our target areas as far as future growth and development in our city, so this project will work well for attracting developers wanting to bring in new businesses,” Mount Dora Mayor Nick Girone said.
