LAKELAND — An industrial project proposed west of Florida Polytechnic University will potentially add a mega-sized warehouse to an area hot for large logistics projects.
The City Commission will hear a proposal to rezone a 104-acre area on University Boulevard, east of the State Road 33 and Interstate 4 interchange, for Brown Development Group, a Miami-based firm that has owned the majority of the property since 2006.
The company has a diverse history of work including warehouses, self-storage facilities, multi-family residential complexes, malls and shopping centers, according to its website.
A representative from the company could not be reached for comment, but Tim Campbell, the Lakeland-based attorney representing the group’s interests in the matter, said the project was being developed in response to the growing needs of e-commerce.
