Boynton Beach says that opening more small antique shops in town could help foster downtown development.
That’s why the city made a recent change to allow more used-book stores, consignment and antique shops to open in clusters on Boynton Beach’s Ocean Avenue and other areas scheduled for redevelopment.
City officials say that developing this niche market will help “promote small-scale businesses and shops along Ocean Avenue and in the downtown area,” similar to cities such as Lake Worth.
Cindy Sumlin, owner of East Ocean Café at 412 E. Ocean Ave., has been in her location for three years. She said downtown Boynton Beach is in need of an economic boost.
