Volusia County Council members voted unanimously Thursday to oppose the city of DeBary’s controversial development proposal for 102 acres of conservation land near Gemini Springs.
The council approved a three page resolution, which stated in part: “utilizing any portion of the Gemini Springs Addition to support development or redevelopment is contrary to the stated mitigation purpose of the property.”
The resolution also restated the county’s intent to accept ownership of the entire 944-acre Gemini Springs Addition conservation area from the St. Johns River Water Management District.
The resolution takes things “back to the original intent,” said Councilwoman Deb Denys. “I think it’s great the council is securing that.”
