To commercial brokers and developers, a 1.3-mile stretch of U.S. 1. is one of the hottest spots in Indian River County.
Between Eighth Street and 18th Street, two long-shuttered car dealerships have been leveled and other land has been cleared to make way for new retail stores and restaurants.
Signs of the area’s resurgence, which I wrote about back in June, are finally visible.
Construction has begun on the county’s first Moe’s Southwest Grill in Indian River Plaza at the northwest corner of U.S. 1 and 15th Place as well as on a new Cumberland Farms at the southeast corner of U.S. 1 and 17th Street. Construction is expected to start soon for the county’s first Wawa gas station at the southeast corner of U.S. 1 and 12th Street. Two unnamed restaurants also are planned for the site, which was the old Vatland dealership.
