FROSTPROOF — A local grocery store may have taken another step to becoming a reality.
At their workshop Tuesday, Town Council members, except for Mayor Ralph Waters who was absent, agreed to offer a $75,000 grant to Save-A-Lot franchise owner Kim Walker to open a store in Frostproof.
City Attorney Mark Smith described Frostproof as a “food desert” and council members acknowledged the problem during a Jan. 15 retreat, stating it was one of the town’s biggest weaknesses.
During a Community Redevelopment Agency planning meeting Jan. 11, residents said the city’s biggest need is a grocery store.
