MOUNT DORA — Officials hope to clear the final hurdles this week to make way for the Golden Triangle’s first movie theater since 1996.
The city’s Planning and Zoning Commission is expected to discuss a variance for the proposal at its meeting at 5:30 p.m. today at city hall. Afterward, EPIC Theatres officials can begin securing permits from the building department for the project.
EPIC, to be built on 17 acres between Wal-Mart and Target on U.S. Highway 441, wants a waiver so the company doesn’t have to construct walls around retention ponds on the property. The city requires a six-foot-high wall between residential and commercial property, but EPIC believes the ponds are sufficient to separate the two uses.
