DAYTONA BEACH — City commissioners gave initial approval Wednesday night to two measures that could allow a planned commercial development on International Speedway Boulevard to move forward, but several of them expressed concerns with the project.
Commissioners approved measures that, if given the final OK in two weeks, will allow a planned development zoning designation and low-intensity commercial use on 2.4 acres of land at 1011 W. International Speedway Boulevard, which is just west of Tuscawilla Park.
The new development would be dubbed Speedway Center West, and it would be on the site that includes the building formerly used by the Children’s Advocacy Center. At least three commissioners — Kelly White, Paula Reed and Ruth Trager — said they don’t know much more than that and they’re not OK with that dearth of information.
