LYNN HAVEN — City officials are looking to the past to map out plans for the future along Lynn Haven’s historic Florida Avenue corridor.
Although the street was quiet Wednesday afternoon, Lynn Haven Community Redevelopment Agency Director Ben Janke hopes efforts from the CRA and the city’s nonprofit Main Street Organization soon will breathe life into what was once a booming urban area in the early 1900s.
“This is where it used to be happening,” Janke said from outside historic Roberts Hall, at the recently revamped intersection of Florida Avenue and West Ninth Street. “This was the original town center. … This is what makes Lynn Haven unique.”
Since 2010, the Main Street program has been working to create a more inviting sense of place in the core downtown area on Florida Avenue between Fifth and 10th streets.
