PLANT CITY — City and business leaders are hoping to revive a program they say will promote and strengthen downtown.
Organizers hope to hire a manager who could, among other duties, manage special events downtown and otherwise coordinate merchants and others who have a stake in the business district.
David Schultz, manager of Plant City Mercantile at 208 S. Collins St. and a key organizer, said city leaders have pledged support for the Main Street Program.
“The city has a big stake in downtown,” he said.
Plant City had a Main Street Program that disbanded in the 1990s. Ronni Woods, Florida Main Street coordinator, recently toured downtown Plant City and explained the program to local business and city leaders.
