ZEPHYRHILLS — Zephyr Plaza shopping center in Zephyrhills may soon receive a face-lift with the property redeveloped as a storage facility along with a retail store and a restaurant.
On Monday, the Zephyrhills City Council unanimously approved a conditional use permit to allow a mini-storage, which was not permitted under the property’s current zoning.
The 6-acre plaza at Gall Boulevard and Geiger Road was built in 1969 and was once a shopping center with a Kash n’ Karry, McCrory Pharmacy and Eckerd Drugs along with some smaller shops. The larger stores moved to locations north on U.S. 301 or went out of business.
Mark Ayer of Zephyr LLC owns most of the plaza property and is in the process of purchasing the former Kash n’ Karry building. He has been in discussions with city staff about refurbishing the building and parking lot and building a mini-storage.
