A streetscape proposal to reduce Broadway by two lanes and create back-in angled parking was scrapped by the Kissimmee City Commission at a workshop on Tuesday.
The new plan, which will be brought to the commission at a later date, puts more focus on the beautification of Emmett and Main Street, as well as completing streetscape plans on side streets to the west of Broadway.
Broadway itself will barely be touched except for adding left turn lanes, raising intersections and widening curbs.
“Locals know that Broadway is the place to go at night or on the weekends. But, outsiders are not going to come in because it looks so ugly. So, I think we need to enhance both of these, Main Street for sure, and Emmett as well. More lighting, make it more appealing for people to come in, because it’s not fair that only just Broadway is enhanced over and over and the rest are neglected,” said Commissioner Wanda Rentas.
