The final design for the $3.8 million Main Street streetscape project was presented before a packed crowd Monday night as the Leesburg Commission plans to improve an eyesore area leading to downtown. Frank Bellomo, of Bellomo Herbert Inc., showed the key elements of the project that will feature a brick entry gateway at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27 and Main Street, along with a new roadway, curbs, sidewalk, brick crosswalks, street lights, decorative landscaping and the relocation of electric, water, wastewater, stormwater and fiber optic lines. The commissioners voted to seek bids for the project, which City Manager Al Minner said would be paid for with $1 million from the Greater Leesburg Community Redevelopment Agency/Tax Increment Financing District Trust Fund, while the remainder will come from available cash from utility funds.
