Position Summary(Major Job Duties): The City of Leesburg is accepting applications for Economic Development Director. The Economic Development Director reports directly to the City Manager and is responsible for developing economic growth strategies for the City of Leesburg and will develop and implement a proactive business retention and attraction program. This is highly responsible administrative work directing the operation of and conducting outreach and growing strong relationships with the City’s current businesses, non-profits, education and workforce development communities and chambers of commerce. The incumbent in this position must actively and strategically market the City of Leesburg as a premier location to site a business and develop the many human, land and environmental assets of the area, while creating and delivering on a strategic economic development plan; manage the City of Leesburg’s real estate portfolio to assure full and effective utilization; direct, coordinate, monitor and evaluate the strategies, programs, activities and incentives to ensure business retention and expansion.
Duties and Responsibilities(Which are not in any hierarchical order): The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration, Economic Development, Urban Planning, Real Estate or a related field. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the fields outlined above and designation as a certified Economic Developer (CEcD) is desirable. Extensive (5+ years) progressively responsible work experience at a level requiring supervision or management of projects and programs in economic development, urban economic development, redevelopment, urban planning, real estate, economic/business assistance, public facility or infrastructure development, commercial development, public and/or private partnerships, workforce development or small business development. Experience with grant writing, business planning and finance, business investment and redevelopment projects. Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and satisfactory driving record.
