SARASOTA – A building boom unlike any the city has seen in almost a decade could soon be underway in Sarasota’s urban core.
Some two dozen potential developments in or adjacent to downtown’s Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) are in some stage of construction or planning — and many are stalled projects from the housing bubble of the mid-2000s.
While it is unlikely that each proposal will reach fruition, the planned developments in the CRA alone could bring as many as 1,566 new residential units, 850 hotel rooms, and more than 50,000 square feet of retail space if completed, according to a new City of Sarasota tabulation.
