UPDATE: $1.9 million land purchase a big step to move the Tallahassee Shelter
Two organizations that provide services for the homeless took a critical step toward moving out of a cramped location along West Tennessee Street and on to a planned location on West Pensacola Street.
On Monday, the Community Redevelopment Agency unanimously approved the $1.9 million purchase of two properties where the Shelter and Renaissance Community Centers reside. The two groups plan to construct a $4.5 million facility along West Pensacola Street.
“This was definitely a major step,” said Chuck White, director of the Renaissance Community Center. “It will be comprehensive; both the Shelter and Renaissance will be co-located in the same building.”
