Hollywood on verge of banning motorized vehicles on Broadwalk
Citing safety concerns, Hollywood commissioners tentatively approved a ban Wednesday on high-speed motorized vehicles they say have turned the city’s popular beachside promenade into a danger zone. The ban could become law at a second hearing next month.
Under the new rules, three-wheel Trikkes, electric bicycles, scooters and other motorized vehicles would no longer be allowed on the Broadwalk. Skateboards and golf carts are already prohibited. Segways, protected by state law, are exempt from the ban.
“I really don’t think anyone here is against motorized vehicles if we have room for them — and we don’t,” said Vice Mayor Dick Blattner.
