Business owners say Leesburg faces choice
Many downtown Leesburg merchants, churches, and residents believe the downtown entrance from U.S. Highway 27 to Main Street is an eyesore that deserves to be renovated with an attractive gateway and landscaping.
Travis Everett, 32, a lifelong Leesburg resident, longs to see the area spruced up.
“When you get ready to make a turn from 27 onto Main Street, the first thing you see is the rundown signs and abandoned area,” Everett said Wednesday, pointing to what he considers an embarrassing intersection heading to the downtown area.
“You kind of want it to look like something when you’re going into downtown. You want it to look a lot prettier,” he said. “The city did a good job making the center of downtown nice, and everything leading up to it should look as nice as well because downtown is what makes Leesburg. … When it comes to beautifying the city, there should be nothing wrong with it.”
