Pensacola City Council eyes zoning to cut industrial activity downtown
Seeking to forever eliminate the unwanted sights and sounds of industrial activity from downtown Pensacola and its surrounding neighborhoods, City Council members this afternoon will discuss tightening the zoning regulations on several downtown lots, including ECUA’s 19-acre Main Street property.
In December, the city Planning Board recommended rezoning all the remaining lots that currently permit industrial uses into traditional mixed-use zones, bringing them in line with the regulations imposed on most downtown businesses, homes and offices.
“This is long overdue,” said Mayor Ashton Hayward. “Industrial use is not part of the fabric of the community anymore. We’re past that.”
