Naples officials to vote on 30-year CRA extension
Naples officials and the public will be challenged to think beyond their own lifetimes when they consider the city’s future development.
The Community Redevelopment Agency will vote today on an advisory board’s suggestion to extend the CRA’s sunset date by 30 years, based on a consultant’s recommendation.
Calvin, Giordano & Associates, Inc., a Fort Lauderdale-based firm, will receive $145,500 in exchange for a detailed report on the pros and cons of extending the CRA to complete existing projects and any new ones that might come up.
“Naples will exist in perpetuity,” said Jeff Oris, senior redevelopment specialist with the firm. “And we have to think beyond a single lifetime.”
Started in 1994, the CRA has collected a tax increment based on property values within its boundaries to redevelop blighted parts of Naples. It is set to stop collecting money in 2023, but may not finish all of its projects by then. [Read more]
