$400 rents aimed at attracting artists
West Palm Beach creating creative enclave
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. —At what used to be public housing, the city of West Palm Beach is building the area’s first artist enclave.
Grace Joyce, West Palm Beach’s redevelopment administrator, toured the two-bedroom apartments with pride Friday. She said an artists’ association was consulted in determining what amenities might be attractive to the painters, sculptors and musicians they are trying to attract.
“It’s probably a one-of-a-kind project,” Joyce said.
The project isn’t just aimed at sprucing up the north side of the West Palm Beach’s Pleasant City neighborhood. It also hopes to give children access to artists and their projects on a weekly basis.
