CLERMONT – The beer environment in Clermont is taking a tasty turn with micro brewer Suncreek Brewery set to open in downtown Clermont on West Minneola Avenue this year.
“We’re happy to be a part of the Clermont downtown revitalization projects,” said owner Bill Downs. “That’s the main reason we’re going downtown is to enhance the business environment they have there.”
Downs is a full time information technology director who has lived in the area since 2003. He said he has been a home brewer on and off since 1991 but has gotten serious about brewing the past few years.
Downs said the brewery will have two levels. The brewing will take place in the basement and the tap room. A bar/tasting room will be on the top floor and will be cut away like a mezzanine overlooking the brewery’s nine or 10 fermentation vessels.
Many beers crafted at Suncreek will be Indian pale ales and dark stouts.
Downs said he would like to get into the local craft beer scene and have Suncreek on tap at area bars and restaurants.
To promote the brewery, he has been going to area beer festivals.
Paul Fallman, of Fallman Construction, owner and developer of the property, said the building currently on site, which originally was a Ford car dealership in the 1930s, will be torn down and a new building will be built. Besides the brewery, a pizzeria and coffee roaster are also going to be tenants of the new building.
Fallman said he is targeting October or November for the opening.
“Clermont is doing tremendous things to redevelop downtown right now,” Fallman said. “Clermont needs more entertainment options and I think this will be perfect and fill that need.”
